Same collar at wash 40.

Most tees are done by wash five. So we are washing one forty times, on camera. Wash 23 is running now.

The complaint

You have bought this tee before. It quit.

We read twelve Reddit threads and 189 comments about plain t-shirts before we cut a single one. Three of them:

I'm getting sick and tired of my T-shirts stretching out after just a few washes.

Every time I buy some, they end up being flimsy, too lightweight, or see through.

If I buy one that fits in the chest/shoulders, it's so long that it entirely covers the zipper of my pants.

The wash test

Forty washes. Warm cycle. Tumble dry. Every time.

Same machine, same detergent, same setting a normal person uses. A $12 tee on the left, the KEPT tee on the right, both after wash 40.

Why it holds

Three boring decisions. Forty washes.

Close-up of the KEPT tee's ribbed collar and taped back-neck seam
01 · COLLAR

A rib that is twice as thick as it needs to be

Heavy 1x1 rib, cut narrow, with a cotton tape sewn over the back seam. The collar is the first thing to go on a cheap tee. Ours is the last.

02 · FABRIC

6.5 oz, and it has already shrunk

Combed cotton, heavy enough to hold a shape, light enough to wear in August. Washed hot twice at the factory so the shrinking happens to us, not you.

Three KEPT tees laid flat in short, regular and long lengths
03 · LENGTH

Your chest size, in three lengths

Short, regular, long. Same chest, same shoulders, a different hem. The zipper stays covered or it does not. Your call, not the pattern's.

Fit

Pick your chest. Then pick your length.

Regular fit. Sleeves that sit on the arm instead of flaring off it. Not slim, not boxy.

The Wash-40 GuaranteeWash it forty times. If the collar waves, the hem twists, or it shrinks more than half an inch, we refund the tee and you keep it. Count the washes however you like. We will believe you.

The math: a $12 tee replaced three times a year is $36 a year, forever.
One KEPT tee is $34, once. Year two is free.

Wearers

What people say at wash 20.

★★★★★

Ordered a medium long. First tee I have owned where the sleeves stay on my arm instead of sticking out like wings. Wash 22 and the collar is the same shape it came in.

I run hot and wash everything warm. Nothing has shrunk. My old ones from the mall are crop tops now, this one is not.

★★★★☆

Wanted a second colour. There is not one. But the black is actually still black, which I cannot say about anything else in the drawer.

Questions

How did you run the wash test?

A real brand would list the machine, the cycle, the detergent, and the tape measure, then post the photos from wash 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40. For the demo: warm wash, normal spin, tumble dry medium, forty times, measured flat on a table.

Why only black?

Because black is where cheap tees fail first. It fades, it goes grey, it shows every wash. If the black holds, the rest will. Colours come after black is right.

What does "three lengths" actually change?

Only the body length. Chest, shoulders and sleeves stay the same for your size. Short is about an inch and a half shorter than regular; long is about an inch and a half longer.

Is 6.5 oz heavy?

Middle of the road. A typical mall tee is about 4.5 oz. The "heavyweight" tees Reddit recommends are 7 to 10 oz and can feel stiff. 6.5 holds a shape without standing up on its own.

What would a real brand ship?

Everything above, plus a real return address. This page exists to show how a live demo page is built, not to sell a tee.
